I first found out about the Lebensborn initiative whilst researching Norway's history. I had booked plane tickets for a weekend to Bergen, Norway and I was curious as to whether I could incorporate my journalism into my trip. When I stumbled across pages on the internet filled with horror stories of child abuse and neglect post-WW2, I was shocked that it was the first time I had heard of what happened.
I started reading up on the Lebensborn war children in particular, as most of them had been born in the country. Various news articles came up explaining the traumatised adults still alive today and what they went through post-war. I knew I had to find out more about the what happened.
